Tehran : Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said that since the outbreak of the current crisis in Lebanon, Iran has voiced its support for national consensus as the only way to come out of the political crisis.
He said the atmosphere of understanding forged in the recent weeks among various Lebanese groups to choose a new president and to settle differences heralded cessation of political crisis in Lebanon.
“However,” he said, “direct interference of US President (George Bush) and dictating mechanisms beyond the law, was a flagrant insult to wise political leaders and great nation of Lebanon.”
By following this guardian-style policy, Washington in fact targeted unity and political independence of the country, he was quoted by the Foreign Ministry Media Department as saying on Dec 22.
The reality is that the Lebanese nation has never forgotten the direct interference and support for the Zionist regime of the US during the invasion on Lebanon in 2006 and the Lebanese leaders still insist on necessity of achieving consensus in determining the fate of the country.
Turning to the epic resistance of the Lebanese nation against the Zionist regime which resulted in the greatest defeat of the usurper Zionists in the contemporary history, he said such a nation is needless of interference of others in its internal affairs and can remove problems and pass through the current political crisis with prudence and responsibility.
He reiterated Iran’s support for national consensus and agreement among various political groups to come out of the current crisis saying Iran believes forging agreement is certain thanks to the understanding and wisdom of the Lebanese nation.”
However, he said, the precondition for achieving this objective is non-interference of the US in internal affairs of Lebanon, which at present serves as the main obstacle on the way of understanding among Lebanese groups.
