Arab parliament speaker condemns attack killing Pakistan’s Bhutto

Cairo : Speaker of the Arab Parliament Mohamed Jassem al Saqr on Saturday denounced the bomb attack that killed former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on Thursday.

Saqr made the condemnation in a statement distributed at the Cairo-based Arab League.

Urging the Pakistani government to hunt down the criminals behind the murder for trial, Saqr said the Arab and Islamic worlds highly appreciate Bhutto’s struggle which will never be wasted or forgotten.

Bhutto, 54, died Thursday evening after being seriously injured in a suicide bomb attack rocked her election rally near the Pakistani capital of Islamabad.

Bhutto, leader of the opposition Pakistan People’s Party, served twice as the prime minister between 1988 and 1996. She had returned to Pakistan on Oct. 18 after an eight-year exile.
