Jordan urges Israel to ease suffering of Palestinian people

Amman : Jordan’s Foreign Minister Salah Bashir on Sunday urged Israel to take steps to ensure success of peace talks with the Palestinians, including a halt to settlement activity in East Jerusalem.

According to a statement by the Jordanian Foreign ministry, Bashir made the remark during a meeting with the visiting US Senator Charles E. Schumer, who is currently on a regional tour.

The meeting highlighted the latest developments in the region and the importance of supporting the international community in ensuring success of the Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.

Regarding Iraq, Bashir noted his country’s keenness on preserving Iraq’s national unity, including a national reconciliation which will bring together all Iraqis factions.

For his part, the US Senator praised Jordan’s effort and role in the region, including efforts in bringing stability and security in the Middle East.
