Raghunath wins Air Rifle national title

Ahmedabad : Asian shooting gold medallist P.T. Raghunath of the Navy Monday clinched the national Air Rile title at the 51st National Shooting Championship here.

Raghunath shot a total of 700.6 (595+105.6) to bag the gold, while Hardeep Singh of the Army (695.9) and Sanjeev Rajput of the Navy (693.2) won silver and bronze.

In the team event, Raghunath, Rajput and Shankar Kakade guided the Navy to the gold medal with an overall score of 1774 out of 1800. The silver went to the Army with 1770 and Maharshtra took the bronze with 1744.

Aneesh Verma Reddy of Andhra Pradesh won the Air Rifle junior men’s event with a score of 587. Maharashtra’s Minit J. Shah (583) bagged the silver and Parth Agarwal of Madhya Pradesh (581) took the bronze.

The gold in the junior section of the Air Rifle team event went to Maharashtra while Uttar Pradesh bagged the silver and Madhya Pradesh bronze.

Meanwhile, in the Free Pistol men’s category, Bapu Vanjare of Army won the gold with a score of 646. Omkar Singh of the Navy (644.8) and Viraj Singh of the ITBP (642.3) won silver and bronze.

The Navy also won the team event in the Free Pistol category with Anil Kumar, Omkar Singh and Satendra Kumar taking the gold, aggregating 1628 points.

The Army, with 1627, bagged silver, while the ITBP shot 1588 to capture the bronze.

Indian Airlines’ Zakir Khan shot 544 out of 600 to bag the gold in Free Pistol junior category, while teammate Amanpreet Singh (541) won the silver medal and Amit Kumar of Madhya Pradesh (538) the bronze.

The gold in the team category of this event went to the Army with an overall score 1592, while Uttrakhand shot 1489 to bag the silver. The bronze medal was not awarded in the team event, as there were only three participating teams.
