Nagpur : Maharashtra State Animal Husbandry and Waqf Minister Anees Ahmad has been exposed after the Waqf land scam.
CNN-IBN reported that, Ahmad purchased the state Waqf Board's land at just Rs 1,763 when the actual worth of that land is at least Rs 4 crore.
Mehemuda Shiksha and Mahila Gram Vikas, a trust registered in the name of Ahmad and run by his wife, has now 1.75 acres of land which was previously owned by the Maharashtra Waqf Board.
A local resident, Md. Salim Ashrafi, said that Anees Ahmad had used his authority as the Waqf Minister to transfer 1.75 acres of land to his trust in 2003.
The documents also reveal how the then collector of Nagpur brought this land under the Urban Land Ceiling Act so it could be transferred to the Minister's trust without a hassle.
Ahmad says in his defense that he can show that there has been no such deal and blames the Waqf Board for misusing its authority in many cases.
However, the Waqf Board officials claim that Ahmad himself had admitted to the
dubious deal in private.
According to the Chairman of the Maharashtra Waqf Board, M.A.Aziz, Ahmad told him that he would vacate the land but he hadn't until just now.
This  causes anger in the Muslim community and strong reactions have started pouring already.
"He has usurped land meant for a Masjid and therefore a fatwa needs to be issued against him," says Salim Chisti, Secretary of Noori Masjid, Maharashtra Waqf Board.
This dubious land deal by a minister has put the state's congress-led Government in a tight spot.
