New Delhi : Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Tuesday assured flood-hit Gujarat of all assistance for relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.
The prime minister spoke to Chief Minister Narendra Modi who apprised him of the flood situation in the state, an official release said.
The state has been experiencing torrential rain for the past three days, affecting normal life in many parts, claiming 28 lives and taking the season's death toll to 70. The army has also joined the rescue efforts.
Large tracts of Saurashtra and the Kutch region, as also south and central Gujarat, remain under water as the administration evacuated thousands of people from low-lying areas.
Jamnagar, Junagarh, Bhavnagar and Amreli in Saurashtra; Vadodara and Bharuch in central Gujarat; and Surat and Navsari in south were among the worst hit districts.
