Ranchi : A lawyer sentenced by the Jharkhand High Court to six months in jail for showing disrespect to the court has decided to challenged the ruling in the apex court.
"I will move the Supreme Court against the order, which is biased, and if needed I will sit on a hunger strike in the court premises," K.K. Jha Kamal said Wednesday.
A constitution bench headed by Chief Justice M.K. Vinaygam passed the judgement Tuesday and referred the matter to the Bar Council of India to do the needful.
After he showed disrespect earlier this year, the high court asked him to apologise but he refused, leading to the sentencing.
During the sentence period the lawyer will not be allowed to argue in the court. The court has kept its order suspended for two months giving the lawyer opportunity to move the Supreme Court.
While announcing the judgement the chief justice said: "A lawyer is officer of the court and he should respect the court."
