Srinagar : Three separatist guerrillas were killed in a fierce, ten hour gunfight with security forces in north Kashmir Wednesday night.
Police said troops of the Rashtriya Rifles (RR), on specific intelligence information, surrounded a house in Saloora village of Ganderbal district, about 25 km from Srinagar Wednesday morning.
"The hiding militants were challenged. The group of heavily armed militants opened fire at the surrounding RR troops. The troops returned the fire and a fierce gunfight ensued which continued till late last evening. The troops later blasted the hideout," said a senior police officer.
"The debris of the house were searched Thursday morning by RR troops and police and bodies of three militants were recovered. Three AK-47 rifles and ten magazines were also recovered from the debris. The cordon around the village was lifted Thursday morning," he added.
The fierce gunfight had triggered panic among the locals.
