AMU vice chancellor P.K. Abdul Azis recalled that the human resource development ministry had allotted special grants to three central universities that have celebrated their 150th anniversary.

Since AMU is one of the oldest universities in India established by the Muslim community with a long heritage, it was entitled to a similar grant from the University Grants Commission (UGC), Azis asserted.

The vice chancellor raised the matter with UGC chairman Sukhdeo Thorat. According to AMU sources, the latter was favourably disposed to the request and asked Azis to submit a detailed proposal.
