Gujjar Chief Ahmad passed away

The chief of tribal Muslim community known as van Gujjars, 130 year old Ahmed Gujjar passed away. Ahmad was also known with his nick name 'neta'.

Ahmad was born in the forest along Sona River in Uttarakhand. He married 7 times but all his wives have died. He left behind 3 sons and 3 daughters. This family is blessed with long lives, his elder sister Roshan Bibi, who is still alive is 132.

Van Gujjars are very poor community who lives off the forest and their livestock possessions. Community has been included among the STs in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and they have been demanding their inclusion in Uttarakhand too.

Ahmad passed away after three days of sickness. He is buried in the graveyard of Kalu Shaheed. A large number of Gujjars attended his funeral prayers.
