"We received an intelligence report that militants will blow up this railway station and adjoining vital installations and trains within two weeks," R.K. Mishra, inspector, Malda Railway Protection Force (RPF), told IANS.

"We have alerted all concerned to continue checking all trains and passengers entering the station," he added.

"We have deployed plainclothes policemen at Malda Town railway station to keep a vigil," said Malda Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Mondal.

All passengers and their belongings are being checked with metal detectors, he added.

Acting on a tip-off, the Malda railway protection police detained the Kamrup Express at Malda Town station and frisked coach number S-1 for explosives. However, they only found a huge quantity of 'ganja' (cannabis) from a water tank in a toilet.

A bomb explosion on a passenger train on Nov 20 last year at Belacoba railway station in north Bengal had claimed eight lives and wounded dozens.
