New Delhi : Police were left clueless Friday when a 35-year-old woman lodged a complaint alleging that her jewellery worth Rs.600,000 kept in a bank locker here had gone missing.
Neera Jain lodged a missing complaint in the Darya Ganj police station at around 2.30 p.m., after she found that the jewellery kept in the Vijaya Bank's branch on Ansari Road was missing.
According to the police, the victim said in her complaint that she had kept two sets of diamonds and some gold in the locker six months ago. But when she checked her locker Friday afternoon the valuables were missing.
However, the woman's conduct aroused suspicion as bank officials informed the police that she visited the locker room twice in the day – first at 11.30 a.m. and then at 2.20 p.m. – but she only raised alarm after her second visit.
"Certainly her behaviour is suspicious, but our investigations are on," Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar said.
