There were, however, no casualties or injuries as no commuter was present in the train during the incident.

According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) officials, the train caught fire at around 1.30 a.m. near Shadipur metro station, on the Dwarka-Barakhamba route. Fire brigade officials doused the blaze within 20 minutes.

"The train was on a trial run and the engineers were checking the heat stimulated devices, when the fire broke out. There is no need to panic as all trains are running as per their schedules," said DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal.

He said no major damage has been caused and the train has been sent to the maintenance depot.
