Two arrested in connection with ‘rocket fire at Musharraf’s flight-path’

Islamabad : Police on Friday arrested two people in connection with 'rocket attack' on the flight-path of a special plane of President Pervez Misharraf, TV channels reported.

TV channels reported that plane was fired on as it took off from a military air based in Rawalpindi, the garrison city near the capital.

The army spokesman denied reports that the special plane of President Musharraf was fired upon.

"The Inter-Services Public Relations denied report carried by news channels regarding rocket attack on President General Pervez Musharraf in Rawalpindi on Friday," a two-line army statement said
Geo TV channel reported that a rocket was fired at the air Chaklala air base, the base used for the flights of the President, Prime Minister and foreign heads of states.

The report said that President Musharraf Friday left for the floods-hit southwestern Balochistan province to assess the damages of heavy rains and floods.

His plane took off from the Chaklala air base.

Witnesses said that an anti-aircraft gun was used to fire rocket from the rooftop of a house near the air base.

They said the security forces recovered three anti-aircraft guns and some 25 empty shells from the roof of the house, which has been empty for some time.

The police took into custody a man namely 'Ghaffar' who is a property dealer and had rented the house to some people.

One of his associates was also arrested.

People in Asghar Mall locality of Rawalpindi city, where the house is located, said that they heard shots at around 10:15 a.m.

They said they saw a man, a woman and two children were fleeing on a motorcycle after the burst fire.

"There was no incident of firing at the President's plane," the army spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad told ARY TV channel.

Geo television earlier reported that firing was also heard after the rocket was fired towards the Chaklala air base.

There was no report of any casualty and damage to the building or plane at the air base.
