Federer wins fifth consecutive Wimbledon, emulates Borg

London : World No.1 Roger Federer won his fifth consecutive Wimbledon men's single title here Sunday, beating arch-rival Rafael Nadal in a five-set battle as he became only the second player after Bjorn Borg to achieve the feat.

The Swiss champion beat the second-ranked Spaniard Nadal 7-6 (9-7), 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-2 in a tightly contested tie to win his 11th career Grand Slam title.

Federer has also won three Australian Open and three US Open titles. He is now tied for third on the career list with Borg and Rod Laver at 11 major titles, trailing Pete Sampras' 14 and Roy Emerson's 12.

It was Federer's 54th straight victory on grass and 34th in a row at Wimbledon.

Borg won his five straight titles at the All England Club from 1976-80.
