Seoul : Seoul had begun preparations for a new round of inter-Korea summit this year amid progress on nuclear issues with Pyongyang, former South Korean prime minister Lee Hae-chan said Monday.
"Unless there are any unexpected obstacles, the inter-Korea summit will be possible this year," Lee was quoted as saying by Kyunghyang Shinmun.
Lee said he had submitted a proposal on the summit to South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun.
The presidential office was currently studying a range of agenda items that the leaders of South Korea and North Korea should discuss during the summit, Lee told the newspaper.
Roh has expressed his will to have the second inter-Korea summit if the process of denuclearisation in the Korean Peninsula makes progress.
North Korea announced Friday it would shut down its nuclear reactor in Yongbyon as soon as it received 50,000 tonnes of heavy fuel oil sent from South Korea.
The first Inter-Korea Summit was held in June 2000, when then South Korean President Kim Dae-jung made a historic trip to Pyongyang.
