Dose of ‘injections’ leads to death of woman, 25 others affected

Rajouri : People in large numbers held a strong protest demonstration here today following the death of a woman and causing serious illness to twenty five other patients admitted in government district hospital after they were allegedly administered injections with contaminated distilled water.

Protestors who took to streets early this morning while carrying the body of the deceased blocked the busy Abdullah Bridge and demanded termination of services of doctors posted in the hospital.

A staff Nurse and Nursing Orderly, who were said to be on duty during night hours, have been arrested in this connection, source told News Agency of Kashmir.

Reliable sources told NAK that the distilled water used with the injection doses was contaminated which caused adverse reaction among the patients leading to the death of one woman Rehmta Bi and affected about 25 others.

All of them were indoor patients under going treatment for various ailments, sources added.

The news of the death of Rehmat bi evoked strong protest among the people who carried her body to Abdullah Bridge disrupting the traffic movement for hours together.

The protestors refused to perform her funeral till government takes a stern action against the hospital authorities for the grave negligence. They also refused conduct the postmortem of the body.

A senior police officer while confirming the arrest of the duo Para-staff said that police has initiated the inquest and there is every likely hood of some more arrests.
