Jammu : Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh who deferred his Tuesday visit to Jammu on account of National mourning following the demise of former Prime Minister Chander Shakher, has now fixed July 15 as the new date for his trip to the state's winter capital.
Dr. Singh was scheduled to attend special convocation of Jammu University today, where he is to be conferred degree of Doctorate of Letters, besides laying the foundation stone of two room flatted accommodation for Kashmiri Pandit Migrants.
Reliable sources told News Agency of Kashmir that Jammu University has received intimation about the new dates from Prime Minsiter Office. They, however, said that the official confirmation of the rescheduled dates for the visit of prime minister would come only tomorrow.
Vice Chancellor Prof Amitab Matoo, when contacted confirmed that the University has received intimation about the new date from PMO. He, however, said that the formal announcement would be made after receiving confirmation letter from New Delhi.
Meanwhile, sources said officials of the university will meet here on Wednesday to discuss the new schedule of the convocation. "The new date is also likely to be announced after the meeting", sources said.
On the other hand sources in the police department told NAK that the security agencies have also received the new date from the PMO. "A meeting of senior officials would be held on Wednesday at Police Headquarters to review the security arrangements".Â
