Berlin : Competitors at the Road Cycling World Championships in Germany this September will be asked to sign a declaration against doping before the race, authorities said Monday.
The declaration was agreed at talks between Germany's interior minister Wolfgang Schaeuble, the German cycling federation (BDR) president Rudolf Scharping and the international cycling union (UCI) president Pat McQauid in Berlin.
The UCI, which governs the sport, had urged riders at the Tour de France to sign a similar declaration. All 189 participants signed the declaration.
It was also agreed to set up a steering group to look at ways to combat doping in the sport. The group will include officials from the world anti-doping agency, WADA, the national anti-doping agency NADA, the UCI and the BDR.
Schaeuble said the race in Stuttgart from September 25 to 30 must be "a new start" and visibly different to other cycling events.
