Rojhan Mazari : Maulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi, the slain deputy chief cleric of Lal Masjid, was Thursday laid to rest at Madrasa Abdullah in his native village Basti Abdullah near Rojhan Mazari.
His elder brother and chief cleric of Lal Masjid Maulana Abdul Aziz, who was arrested while fleeing the mosque in disguise during the army operation, led the funeral prayers under stringent security measures, Pakistani news agency Online reported. Aziz was released on parole to attend Ghazi's funeral.
Ghazi was killed Tuesday during the army's Operation Silence – now renamed Operation Sunrise – to flush out militants holed up in the masjid.
The remains of Ghazi were brought late Wednesday night to his village from Islamabad.
People from Basti Abdullah and adjoining areas attended funeral prayers in large numbers and demanded an inquiry by the supreme court into the Lal Masjid incident.
