Bhubaneswar : A retired teacher in an Orissa village fired at his two sons and younger brother, injuring them seriously, over a family feud, police said Saturday.
Police have arrested Prafulla Kumar Mishra, a former Sanskrit teacher from Laxmanpur village of Jajpur district, and produced him in court where his bail plea was rejected and he was remanded in judicial custody.
“Mishra’s elder son Raju, who is employed in the Indian Air Force, was recently transferred to Kharagpur (West Bengal). Raju reached home with his family on Friday and wanted to shift all his household articles given by his in-laws to Kharagpur. This led to an altercation between him and his father,” Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Madhu Sudan Panda told IANS.
“They quarrelled Friday night but Mishra’s younger brother Murali pacified them. But Saturday morning the altercation took a brutal turn when Mishra fired three rounds from a country-made gun. Three persons, Raju, his brother Aju and Murali, have been injured,” he said.
Police have seized the gun. The injured were taken to a hospital in Cuttack.
Hospital sources said Raju and Murali had received bullet injuries on their hands while Aju had a bullet injury on his thigh. “They are out of danger,” a hospital official added.
“We are verifying why Mishra had kept the unlicensed gun with him,” Jajpur District Superintendent of Police D.S. Kuttey said.
