New York : Mahadevan R. Iyer, sales and marketing manager (western region) of Air India’s US operations, died Friday morning of a heart attack. He was 50.
He had collapsed on Thursday (July 12) afternoon after returning from Air India’s inaugural New York-Mumbai non-stop flight. He was instrumental in setting up of operations for Air India’s flights from Los Angeles to India.
Iyer worked with Air India for over a decade.
He was a resident of Los Angeles and secretary and director of the Balaji Temple of Malibu, the largest Hindu temple in western America. He was always ready to help the Indian community in the area, a family friend recalled.
His body is being flown from New York to Los Angeles. The cremation will take place on Thursday (July 19). His mother and sister are flying down from India, a family friend said.
Iyer is survived by his wife, Kalyani, and two sons, aged 20 and 11.
