Bangalore : Cookies, a magic show, tattoo painting, lucky draws, calligraphy and, of course, movies are in store at book shops for Harry Potter fans in Bangalore.
Most of the 12 major bookshops in the city are opening between 5.30 a.m. and 6.30 a.m. Saturday and many are still drawing up plans to make the early morning out of Potter fans – young ones as well as their parents – comfortable.
"Yes. We will be offering cookies," Smitha Vinayak of Oxford Bookstore, located at a hotel in central Bangalore, told IANS.
Vinayak, who is handling the Potter show for the store, said four of the movies based on the series would be screened for the benefit of buyers and visitors to the shop Saturday.
"We have also lined up calligraphy writing by an expert, a magic show, tattooing and lucky draw," she said.
Vinayak said 250 copies have been booked as the shop is offering a 17 percent discount on the "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows", possibly the last in the series by British author J.K. Rowling.
"We have ordered 600 copies and expect them to be sold out in a couple of days," she added.
Landmark, another major bookshop in the city, has turned the store into a castle to go with Pottermania, said a spokesperson who did not want to be named.
"We have already booked 1,100 copies with a discount of Rs.180 on the cover price and are opening at 5.30," he said.
Bookworm has booked 160 copies at a 30 percent discount and will open shop at 6 a.m.
V. Mani of Higginbotham's said they would open at 5.30 and were awaiting word from the head office in Chennai on the discount to be offered and other plans for early morning visitors.
Other majors like Strand, Sapna Book House, Gangaram and Crossword are also opening around 6 a.m., offering varying discounts and working out other plans to make the first day of the book's release memorable for customers.
