Ranchi : Unhappy with the performance of the state government, a Jharkhand minister has sought voluntary retirement.
Bhanu Pratap Shahi, the health minister of Jharkhand, offered his voluntary retirement to Chief Minister Madhu Koda on Thursday while attending a dinner after the presidential polls.
Lambasting his own government, Shahi told reporters: "The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government has done nothing significant in its ten-month rule.
"If the people or UPA leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Lalu Yadav and Shibu Soren asked us about the achievements in the last ten months, we have virtually no answer to satisfy them."
The minister had walked out of a cabinet meeting last week. Asked about the reasons for his walk out, he said: "In the cabinet meeting, no people-related issues were brought. I had cleared the raising of old age pensions some three months ago, but the issue did not come in the cabinet".
He expressed unhappiness over converting the Jaipal Singh stadium here into a shopping mall. "How can one justify converting a stadium into a shopping mall? The stadium is named after a legend who was the hockey captain of India and fought for the state."
Shahi is dissatisfied also because a proposal to construct a 500-bed hospital here was not brought up in the cabinet meeting.
Besides the health minister, Human Resource Development Minister Bandhu Tirkey is also unhappy with the state government's nod to convert the stadium into a shopping mall.
The Madhu Koda government was formed in September last year after dethroning the Arjun Munda led government of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
