On Saturday evening, several teenagers suffered electric shocks after they stepped on a naked electric wire during the concert by rock group Superfuzz organised by Channel V, a private entertainment channel, at Pragati Maidan.

The electrocution lasted for around 30 seconds leaving the traumatised youths dazed and unable to speak. Around 800 people were present in the Hamsdhwani theatre during the incident.

Within seconds of the incident, dozens of teenagers, both boys and girls, could be seen lying on the ground, screaming with pain and shock. The organisers immediately switched off the power supply, leaving the place in darkness, but did little else as people ran helter-skelter trying to give succour to those who had suffered most.

"We don't know what had happened during the concert, no such incident has been brought to our notice so far. No one has even approached us or police control room to lodge any complaint," said additional station house officer (Tilak Marg) Madan Lal Chander.

"We can't register a case on a mere presumption that over 30 people would have died in the incident, but we would definitely take up the case, if approached by anyone with a formal complaint. It is just media which has hyped the issue," Chander told IANS.

He said police came to know about the incident after a "youth was admitted to some private hospital in Gurgaon, on the outskirts of the national capital, with muscle injuries. The doctors phoned us to inform about the incident".

He added that they are in constant touch with the injured family.

According to an eyewitness, one of the youngsters suffered serious muscle injuries and was later admitted to the Max Hospital in Gurgaon near his home. He was reported to be recuperating.

Meanwhile, his family has alleged police of harassment.

"We have received numerous calls from the police officials asking irrelevant questions. Nobody has asked us to file a formal complaint. Policemen just keep calling us and said they would come after a few days to record my son's statement," said the victim's parents who said they did not wish to be identified.
