Indian consulate to have ‘open house’ on I-day

New York : The Indian consulate in New York plans to celebrate the 60th anniversary of India's independence on Aug 15 by holding an 'open house' at its premises in Manhattan.

Consul General Neelam Deo will read the president's message to the nation on the occasion. It will be followed by a reception.

The consulate has invited all non-resident Indians and people of Indian origin to the celebrations.

The main Independence Day event here is the annual India Day parade organised by the Federation of Indian Associations.

Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra will lead the parade as grand marshal on Aug 19.
