"This is happening in Tamil Nadu whereas in Kerala so far this has not happened. Already officials of the Kerala State Electricity Board and the state's fisheries department have had discussions. Very soon, this would be a reality in Kerala too," Sarma said.

"Once fish breeding becomes a reality, people living in and around the various dam sites would form a cooperative society to take up this vocation. This would be done only after taking necessary protection for the dams," he said.

The minister also added that inland fisheries too would be promoted in a big way through a project called 'Matsya Keralam'.

Organic fish farming is another area where Kerala would soon enter, Sarma said.
