Dubai : The Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC) here has, for the first time in the organisation's history, elected a woman in to its governing board.
Ruby Celly was selected Thursday from among 19 contestants to join the highest level of the IBPC, which is the only recognised representative organisation of Indian businesses and professionals in Dubai, reported WAM news agency.
Celly brings a wealth of financial expertise to her new position, drawn from many years of working in the insurance industry. She is currently a financial planning consultant at Nexus, the Middle East's largest insurance and financial services brokerage.
Her appointment demonstrates the ongoing development of the Indian business community in Dubai. The IBPC works to promote links between Indian and UAE professionals and to increase the flow of trade between the two countries.
"I am very proud to have been the first woman elected to the governing board of such a prestigious organisation and I shall do my best to help achieve the IBPC's important goal of strengthening India-UAE ties," said Celly.
"I am also an executive committee member of the Indian Ladies Association of Dubai and I see my work with the IBPC enhancing links not just between the UAE and India, but also providing fresh opportunities for professional Indian ladies," she added.
