Jaipur : The Rajasthan government has decided to reduce electricity consumption by mandatory installation of energy saving compact fluorescent lights (CFLs) and solar heating plants in all government buildings, including offices, guesthouses and other annexes.
As per the new directives, high-powered sodium vapour lights will be replaced by energy saving lights in neighbourhoods and outside houses. In parks, solar powered energy devices will be installed for lighting purposes.
Besides, the government has also decided to go for an energy audit in government offices from time to time.
"The target to implement these directives has been fixed from March 2009. However, we have decided to start the process right now," Pratap Singh Singhvi, Rajasthan's urban development minister, told IANS here Friday.
It is estimated that use of CFLs and solar water heating plants will reduce the total power consumption by 20 to 30 percent. At present, the installed electricity generation capability in Rajasthan is around 4,547 MW.
