Singles attending the International Sindhi Sammelan over the weekend were asked to fill out forms asking for personal details.

A special "matrimonial suite" at the Grand Copthorne Hotel was set aside for discreet meetings between families.

"Sometimes the women are so highly qualified that finding a match is hard," The Straits Times quoted wedding solemnizer Divya Advani as saying. "What we can do is make the introductions."

Such issues as preserving the Sindhi language and heritage were also discussed.

Most Hindu Sindhis fled their homeland Sindh in Pakistan during the 1947 partition of the sub-continent and ended up in far-flung places. Nearly 18,000 are in Singapore. There are at least 3.2 million Sindhis outside Pakistan.

Among those attending the networking conference of the Sindhi diaspora was L.K. Advani, the opposition leader in the Indian parliament and a former deputy prime minister.
