Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S.K. Sinha Wednesday administered the oath of office to Justice Aftab Alam as the new acting chief justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
Justice Alam's appointment was made as per a communiqué issued from the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi. The statement was read out by Registrar General of the high court Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dar.
Justice Alam has been transferred from the Patna High Court to Jammu and Kashmir. He was elevated as a permanent judge of the Patna High court in July 1990.
Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Justice Nissar Ahmad Kakroo, other judges and members of the bar and bench were present during the oath-taking ceremony.
Justice Alam is likely to be confirmed as the chief justice in a month.
