The anti-graft court is a makeshift court for the trial of corrupt persons, instituted by the military-backed caretaker regime.

The sentence was for not submitting his wealth statement within the deadline given by the government, according to the court.

The caretaker government of Fakhruddin Ahmed has declared a war against corruption throughout the country, which was ranked as one of the most corrupt in the world for five consecutive years by the German-based Transparency International.

Tarique Rahman is now in jail, and has confessed to holding bank accounts in five countries.

As many as 150 politicians, including former ministers and lawmakers, have been arrested and face trial for corruption.

The UN and the World Bank recently assured Bangladesh of their help in recovering monies kept by the corrupt ministers, leaders and lawmakers in foreign banks.
