Cricket world cup for lawyers in Hyderabad

New Delhi : Lawyers from India, Sri Lanka, England, South Africa, Australia and the West Indies will play a cricket tournament in Hyderabad in December 2007-January 2008, it was announced Thursday.

Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan will inaugurate the tournament at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium Dec 30, the Indian Advocates Cricket Association (IACA) said here.

"We felt it is good that a cross section of the legal fraternity should come together and play cricket," IACA president R. Santhana Krishnan said in a statement.

An IACA team will also tour England from June 8 to 18 this year to play the 'Devils Cup' six-a-side tournament, he said. The Indian lawyers are the current champions.

The Indian team will also play matches with the teams of English Barristers, Solicitors, Indian Gymkhana Club and others.

The Bar Council of England and The Law Society of England and Wales are facilitating the IACA tour by arranging meetings, visits to the Courts of Law at the Royal Courts of Justice and tours to the British parliament.

IACA teams toured Sri Lanka in October 2004, England in June 2005, Trinidad and Tobago in May 2006 and Barbados and England in June 2006.
