Jammu and Kashmir records Rs.3.81 bn tax collection

Jammu : Jammu and Kashmir's income tax collection in 2006-2007 was Rs.3.81 billion against Rs.2.57 billion in the previous year, an increase of 50 percent, according to official statistics.

Of the total tax collection, more than Rs.1 billion was from the Kashmir Valley.

"This is the highest increase recorded in Jammu and Kashmir's tax collections so far," according to an income-tax official here who attributed this to the department's public awareness campaign.

According to official figures, the department has more than 117,000 assesses on its record.
