According to Hisham Majdalawi, member of the factional joint committee to end clashes, the two rival movements agreed on a ceasefire after they met Monday.

"The ceasefire has been implemented since 11.00 a.m. local time (0800 GMT)," said Majdalawi, adding that Palestinian militants were pulled out from streets, roadblocks were removed and militants on the rooftops came down.

The latest ceasefire was brokered by a visiting Egyptian security delegation led by Major General Borhan Hammad, Egypt's news agency MENA said.

Leaders of the two movements pledged before the Egyptian security delegation to implement the agreement immediately.

The ceasefire came less than a day after three Palestinians were killed and 12 wounded in Gaza city in Hamas-Fatah clashes.

Militants loyal to rival Fatah and Hamas groups have been involved in intermittent fighting in the last few days despite an Egyptian-brokered ceasefire, which took effect on May 19.

On Saturday, infighting broke out between Hamas and Fatah in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, during which three Palestinians were killed and at least 50 injured.
