Pakistan has suffered the worst heat wave with mercury levels in a number of regions touching record heights since June 9.

Maximum temperatures in major cities have reached 49 degrees Celsius in the past two days, some regions even recorded 51 degrees or more.

Scorching heat killed some 63 people on June 10 in the country, The Nation, reported Monday. And an earlier report said 12 people died due to heat wave on June 9.

There is no immediate official figure of the heat wave toll so far.

Experts believe that unusually dry conditions, absence of strong winds, and sharp contrast in the mercury level in the region are the causes of ongoing heat wave.

Meteorological department has forecast the same weather pattern during next couple of days.
