London : Jamaican police are set to announce that Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer died of natural causes and was not murdered as previously thought, British media report.
Police in Kingston have scheduled a news conference for 1500 GMT Tuesday at which it is believed they will detail new evidence that has come to light, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported.
The latest findings follow work by a UK Home Office pathologist, who flew to Jamaica to probe Woolmer's death.
Woolmer was found dead in his hotel in Jamaica on March 18 after Pakistan's first-round exit from the World Cup. The death and subsequent murder investigation overshadowed the whole event.
According to the BBC, Jamaican press reports suggest that three pathologists, including one attached to Scotland Yard, all agree that the former England player died of natural causes after conducting their own investigations
British media reports have suggested the latest inquiry has shown that Woolmer's death was brought on by chronic ill-health and possibly diabetes.
Last month there were several reports, which suggested the former England batsman was not murdered, often citing sources close to the investigation.
Reports say an official announcement that Woolmer died of natural causes could lead to legal action from the Pakistani cricket team against Jamaican police.
The initial belief that Woolmer was strangled prompted claims that members of the Pakistan team may have been responsible for the death of their 58-year-old coach.
Woolmer's death had led to speculation about the possible involvement of a match-fixing "mafia".
