New Delhi : A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court Friday convicted a retired army clerk for withdrawing money by making fake death claims to insurance agencies.
The 14th Metropolitan Magistrate, Kolkata, sentenced the accused Darshan Singh to one-year rigorous punishment for withdrawing Rs.150,000 from Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).
According to the central investigating agency, the accused used to obtain LIC policies in fictitious names and later submitted fake death certificates to withdraw the money.
"In present case he obtained a policy in the fictious name of Joginder Singh and informed the insurance company that the policy holder died in army operation in Kashmir. He withdrew the money," the CBI said in a press release here.
"The agency also filed ten charge sheets against Darshan Singh in courts at Lucknow, Jodhpur, Jaipur, Indore, Patna and Howarh for similar offences," the statement added.
