Patiala (Punjab) : Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, the media adviser to former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh, was Saturday remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.
Chahal, who was arrested by the Ludhiana police last week on various charges including attempt to murder, was brought here by the Patiala police Thursday in two more cases registered against him.
The Patiala police are investigating one case filed by a local businessman who alleged that Chahal had fraudulently taken away his expensive Mercedes car in 2005 and refused to return it. Chahal has been charged with cheating in this case.
In another case, the owner of Commando Caterers has alleged that Chahal had got a modern kitchen constructed by him at a cost of Rs.1.5 million but had refused to pay the money.
The court of the chief judicial magistrate had Friday ordered Chahal – one of the most powerful men in Punjab till February this year – to a day in police custody.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court had Friday directed Punjab police to give seven day's notice to Chahal if he was to be arrested in any fresh case filed against him.
Besides, the state vigilance department is also investigating Chahal's disproportionate assets.
On Thursday and Friday, police searched his palatial residence here.
