Cairo : The Arab League began taking measures Sunday to implement decisions of the recently concluded emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers with regard to the situation in the Palestinian territories and Lebanon.
The first meeting of the committee tasked with investigating violence in Gaza will take place at the Arab League Monday, said director of the office of the league’s secretary-general, Hisham Yousef, in a statement.
The committee, formed by the foreign ministers, is headed by Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa and representatives of Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan and Qatar.
Yousef said the committee would also follow up and support Saudi efforts for Palestinian conciliation in line with the Mecca Agreement, as well as Egypt’s efforts reaching a ceasefire between the Palestinian factions.
The committee report will be presented to Arab foreign ministers within a month, he said.
Meanwhile, a high-level delegation will head to Beirut Tuesday to hold talks with the different Lebanese parties, the country’s leadership, and MPs in order to revive national dialogue.
The delegation will be headed by Moussa and group representatives from Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Qatar and Egypt. It is to report its findings to the Arab League Council as soon as possible.
