Match Referee Alan Hurst found Edwards guilty of using inappropriate language in a hearing after play concluded in Durham Tuesday. Edwards was found to have breached clause 1.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct that relates to "using language that is obscene, offensive or insulting."

"When bowling, and in frustration, Fidel swore loudly enough to be heard by spectators at the ground and television audiences. We are not saying that players cannot show frustration or demonstrate passion but Fidel's means of doing that was totally unacceptable and does not set an appropriate example," said Hurst.

"The player regrets his actions and I trust this penalty will serve to ensure it does not occur again," he added.

Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player's match fee.

On-field umpires Aleem Dar and Billy Bowden, third umpire Nigel Llong and fourth official Trevor Jesty brought the charge against the West Indies bowler.

Hurst reached his conclusion after a hearing attended by Fidel Edwards, West Indies captain Daren Ganga, Team Manager Michael Findlay and the four umpires.

England won the third and final Test by seven wickets winning the four-match Test series 3-0.
