Karachi : Senior Pakistani lawyers campaigning against the suspension of Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry say their colleagues in Nepal and Bangladesh support their cause.
Sindh High Court Bar Association president Abrar Hasan, who recently visited Bangladesh, told the Karachi Bar Association Thursday that Bangladeshi lawyers knew "exactly what is happening in Pakistan, particularly with regard to the lawyers".
Zia Awan, an advocate who recently visited Nepal, said that Nepalese lawyers also supported the Pakistani lawyers' stand on Chaudhry's suspension.
Chaudhry's suspension by President Pervez Musharraf on charges of promoting his son has triggered nationwide protests. Chaudhry has been touring the country and addressing members of bar councils.
Meanwhile, Chaudhry has been invited to attend the twice-postponed anniversary celebrations marking the establishment of the Supreme Court in Karachi.
The event is to be held Aug 14, Pakistan's Independence Day, the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) announced.
Chaudhry's attempt to visit Karachi May 12 was aborted due to massive violence that killed 48 people. He had to fly back from the airport itself.
