Hindustan Lever gets new name, logo

Mumbai : Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL), one of India's best known fast moving consumer goods company with popular brands like Liril, Lux, Brooke Bond, Kissan, Lakme and Kwality Wall's is getting a new corporate identity and logo.

The company informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), where it is listed Monday, that is was changing its name to Hindustan Unilever Ltd and that its log will be symbolic to the firm's mission of "Adding Vitality to life".

"Our new identity will help us confidently position ourselves in every aspect of our business," said Doug Baillie, chief executive of Hindustan Unilever, which has some of 25 different icons representing the organization and its brands.

"We believes that the new name provides the optimum balance between maintaining the heritage of the company and the synergies of global alignment with the corporate name of Unilever," he added.

The shareholders of the company, which has its presence in areas like nutrition, hygiene, personal care, food and drinks, had approved the change of corporate identity and logo May 18.

The company said it was is retaining the name "Hindustan" as the first word in its name to reflect its continued commitment to the local economy, consumers, partners and employees.

Unilever first set up its Indian subsidiary Hindustan Vanaspati Manufacturing Co in 1931, followed by Lever Brothers India in 1933 the and the United Traders Ltd in 1935.

These three companies were merged to form Hindustan Lever Ltd in November 1956.
