While addressing the function, Advani said that it is painful that people are still deprived of facilities such as electricity, roads, water, education and health services even after 50 years of freedom. It reflects that policy makers of the country have failed totally to convert freedom into good governance, he added. He also took stock of the power unit and lighted up boiler in the control room.

It may be mentioned that Sanjay Gandhi Thermal power station Birsingpur would become largest producer of 1360 megawatt electricity after functioning of its new unit and the capacity of MPPGC would increase to 3544 megawatt from 3044 megawatt. The new unit costing Rs. 2300 crore would generate 3723 million units annually. It may also be highlighted that Sanjay Gandhi thermal power station, Birsingpur is the only power station of the state, which produces electricity from thermal and hydro power.

Advani further said that it is evident from corruption, discrimination, backwardness and poverty that dreams of freedom fighters are still unrealised in the country. He added that development cannot be assessed by space science, atomic power and computers but it can be assessed with opportunities provided to common citizens in the fields of education, employment and health services etc.

While praising the efforts of the state government Advani said that the state government is making continuous efforts towards development and welfare of the state and citizens as well and has attained remarkable achievements during the last three years.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on the occasion said that concerted efforts are being made by the government in every sphere for the welfare of the people. Several welfare schemes are being implemented under the time bound programme to achieve the desired goals. He further mentioned that public representative can only dedicate himself to the welfare of the society provided he/she links himself/herself with each and every individual of the society. He said that the government is shortly going to dedicate a 520 megewatt capacity Omkareshwar power unit followed by Chachai, which will contribute a lot in the capacity of power generation in Madhya Pradesh.

Chouhan announced that work related to 500 megawatt new power plant at Birsingpur would be undertaken shortly and employment would be provided to the local youths as per their qualifications. He also mentioned that rehabilitation is being undertaken for people whose land have been acquired for establishment of power plant and they will be linked with the employment. He added that efforts of the government are not limited to the present but efforts are being made keeping in view the future requirements. ([email protected])
