Srinagar : Two militants responsible for a grenade attack on an Indian Army convoy in which a soldier was killed and 22 wounded were gunned down in north Kashmir Friday.
The two were gunned down by police and paramilitary forces in Handwara town, 75 km from here.
"In a joint operation carried out by the local police and the Rashtriya Rifles, the two militants were killed. Two troopers also sustained injuries in the shootout that lasted for several hours," a senior police officer told IANS here.
The slain militants had carried out an attack on the army convoy Thursday in Handwara town. Two civilians were also injured in the attack.
One of the injured troopers succumbed to his injuries in a hospital in Handwara Friday, police said.
After the attack, the militants had taken shelter in a house in the town. The security forces had immediately surrounded the house, not allowing the militants to escape.
The house, which was being used as a fortified bunker by the militants, was also destroyed in the shootout, reports reaching here said.
