Orissa minister, 5 others injured in road accident

Bhubaneswar : Orissa Tourism and Excise Minister Debi Prasad Mishra and five others were seriously injured Thursday when his car collided with another car on a national highway at Charbhati in Sambalpur district, police said.

Police said the mishap occurred when the vehicle in which the minister was travelling collided with a car coming from opposite direction on the national highway-42. The other car was carrying Tribikram Tripathy, editor of a local daily, and his son Bijay Tripathy.

The minister accompanied by his personal assistant Basanta Sahu and Biranchi Mishra, Joint Director, Tourism, was on his way to Bargarh district to attend the conclusion of Bargarh Loka Mahotsav, police said.

According to police, the minister, who was profusely bleeding, was rushed to a local hospital. He sustained severe injuries in head and leg.

The editor, who also sustained serious injuries, was admitted to Rairakhol hospital along with his son.
