Kathmandu : The staff of Indian television channel Nepal1 have been on strike in Nepal for over two weeks, demanding better working conditions.
Around 83 employees of the New Delhi-headquartered television channel have struck work for 18 days Sunday with two of them having begun a fast unto death.
Their 20-point demand includes a call to be given appointment letters and to be paid in time.
Several of Nepal's top politicians, including deposed prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala's daughter Sujata Koirala, and Health Minister Giriraj Mani Pokhrel, visited the striking journalists and expressed their concern.
The Kathmandu Post daily Sunday said Koirala too had expressed concern at the ongoing agitation.
The premier had asked the Federation of Nepalese Journalists to look into the protest, the daily said.
Nepal's official media said Minister of Information and Communications Krishna Bahadur Mahara had met the protesters and said the management of the Indian channel would be called for dialogue.
