Jerusalem, May 10 (DPA) Israel’s Foreign Ministry confirmed Thursday that an Arab League delegation will make an historic first visit to the Jewish State.
The confirmation followed a meeting in Cairo between Egyptian officials and Arab League representatives with Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.
“An Arab League delegation will come to visit Israel,” said Mark Regev, a foreign ministry spokesman.
“The (Cairo) meeting was historic, in that for the first time an Arab League delegation had direct had talks with Israel, which it has shunned in the past,” he said.
Regev said it is Israel’s hope that moderate Arab states will “weigh in to strengthen Palestinian moderates”.
