Chandigarh, May 17 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will Saturday lay the foundation stone for a 1,200MW thermal power station to be set up in Barwala area of Hissar district in Haryana.
The Rs.42.97 billion (Rs.4,297 crore) project will be commissioned within 36 months, financial commissioner (power) Ashok Lavasa said here Thursday.
This is the first thermal power plant in north India to be granted the status of a mega project. This will bring down the cost of the project.
The plant, to be set up in nearly 990 acres of land, will have two power generation units of 600 MW each.
The first unit is likely to be commissioned by December 2009 and the second by March 2010.
