Rs.150 million more being invested in Indian tennis

New Delhi : Aiming to win more medals in the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, Olympics and the Asian Games, the All India Tennis Association (AITA) Tuesday decided to spend Rs.150 million annually for the development of the game in the country.

At a meeting of the development advisory committee under the chairmanship of Jaidip Mukerjea, the AITA decided that the amount will be spent annually for support of tournaments, adoption of tennis players, coaching camps, physical trainers, visiting teams and sports medicine facilities and other activities.

Others who attended were Akhtar Ali, Nandan Bal, T. Chandrasekaran and Ranbir Chauhan.

Leading corporate houses like Reliance Industries, DLF Group, Bharati Enterprises and Jupiter Group have already joined hands and given support to this programme of the AITA.

The committee has set a target of a minimum of 10 medals in the Commonwealth Games. Around 20 promising players shall be shortlisted towards preparation for the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and the 2012 London Olympics.
